What is Chartered Accountancy?

CA course or Chartered Accountancy is a highly reputed professional degree which essentially deals in business and finance. A person who is qualified as a Chartered Accountant can administer matters related to taxation, accounting, auditing business firms and financial statements, file tax returns and so on. A Chartered Accountant can also offer advisory services to clients- individual and business firms. Those who want to become a CA in India must complete Chartered Accountant course 2023. If you are opting this you should know that CA Course duration is of 5 years.

Who is a Chartered Accountant?

To become a certified Chartered Accountant a person needs to qualify all the three levels of CA examinations – CA Foundation, CA Intermediate or IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course) and CA Final. All the three examinations are regulated and maintained by a statutory body called ICAI – Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Who can apply for CA examinations?

Under the scheme of Education and Training, a person can pursue Chartered Accountant course either through Foundation course route or through Direct entry route. Foundation Course is the entry point for a candidate after 12th and Direct entry route is for candidates who have completed their graduation.

The CA Course eligibility criteria described by the ICAI for CA Foundation is as mentioned below –

For Foundation Course:

  • The aspirant must have passed Class XII and completed four months of study period to be able to appear for the CA Foundation exam.
  • The candidate needs to register with the Board of Studies for four months of study period.

For Intermediate Course:

  • Students who have cleared their CA Foundation exams held by ICAI.
  • Commerce Graduates/Post-Graduates (with minimum 55% marks) or Other Graduates/Post-Graduates (with minimum 60% marks) from a recognized university (including Open University). (Direct entry route to CA Intermediate)

When does the different exams for CA take place?

All the exams conducted by ICAI take place twice a year. CA Foundation is conducted twice a year, first in the month of May and then November. CA Intermediate and CA Final exams also take place twice a year in the month of May and November as well. One should start their preparation for Chartered Accountant course as soon as they get the exam dates as this is one of the toughest course in India.

FAQs for CA Exams in November 2023:

Q. Is the student who has enrolled for May 2023 Exams required to fill out the exam form for November 2023 over again?

A. Yes, the students of all courses who had enrolled for Exams in May 2023 are required to fill the form for November 2023 once again on the opening of the window for the Exams. However, the students are permitted to change the group(s) as well as the Center, for Examinations in November 2023.

Q. Can the students make changes in the exam center preference from the one filled for May/ July  2023 exams?

A. Yes, the students are required to fill exam form once again where they can opt for an exam centre of their choice.

Q. If a student who had enrolled for May 2023 Exams for one group, can he apply for both Groups or change the group in November 2023 examinations. What will be the due fees?  

A. Students are supposed to fill out forms once again for November 2023 Examinations wherein they can apply for both the groups or change the apply for both the groups or change groups and pay the differential fees.

Q. Is the fee paid for May/July 2023 examination going to be adjusted or the student has to pay the full fees all over again and get a refund for the earlier paid fees?

A. The student will get the auto calculation of the fees he has to pay after he enters his details while filing the November 2023 exam forms. If he is opting for the same group as he did before then he is not needed to pay any fees further. In case, he wants to appear for both groups as opposed to his earlier preference then he is required to pay differences of fee only.

Q. If a student who had failed to fill exemptions available in May 2023 Examinations, can claim the exemptions for Examinations of November 2023?

A. Yes, all exemptions due to students for exams of May 2023 are carried forward for November 2023 exams and student can claim the same while filling exam form for November 2023. 

Q. When will be the last attempt for Intermediate old course?

A. The last attempt for Intermediate Old course is extended till November 2023.

Q. When is the last attempt for final old course students?

A. The last attempt for Final old course students is Extended until November 2023.

Q. When Exactly Will the Examinations be held in 2023?

A. The Examination, including May 2023 ones will be held in November 2023.

Q. Is a student allowed to migrate to Final New Scheme in November 2023 if he has cleared his one group in the old scheme?

A. Yes, the student is allowed to migrate to the Final New Course before filling of November 2023 examinations form while having required to appear for balance group which was not passed in the old scheme.

Q. Due to the COVID-19 situation, students may not be able to travel to the nearest Examination center and staying in the city of the centre may be impacted due to the restrictions. Are there any arrangements to open examinations at the state/district level where there are no  Exam centres present?

A. Keeping in mind the COVID-19 Pandemic and to avoid hardship on the students and the members as well as for their well-being ICAI  has decided to open 193 (192 in India and 1 in Overseas) additional Examination Centers. Students can opt for the examination centre near them to appear in the examination.

Q. Will ICAI cancel exam centres if the adequate number of Students do not present themselves to appear from newly added exam centres?

A. No, the ICAI will not cancel any exam centres irrespective of the number of students.

Q. Are the students of Final New Course allowed to change the elective subject while filling the form for November 2023 exams?

A. Yes, Students can change the elective subject of paper 6 while filling examination form for November 2023.

Q. Can a student change Medium of language while filling fresh application for November 2023?

A. Yes, the student can change the medium of language for appearance in exams.

Q. Can a student get another opportunity to change the exam center after one month of filling the exam form due to Pandemic situation?

A. Students will have the opportunity to change the Examination center through the correction window which will open in the first week of October.

Q. As the May 2023 exams are cancelled and merged with November 2023 Exams, would pass out date be deemed to be passed in May 2023 or Nov 2023?

A. The Passout date and year will be November 2023 as the May Examinations are merged with November Exams.

Q. In case a student has 2 papers remaining to complete his second group in IPCE and his attempt is due in May 2021 and that student is supposed to clear his 2 papers in November 2023, in that situation how can he appear in May 2021 because the date of enrollment for final is December 2023 but the result of November 2023 exam may be declared in the month of January/February 2021?

A. The student after passing both the groups of IPCE is required to enroll in Final Course before filling the form for Final Examination.

Q. Can a student apply in Group II under Old CA course and in Group I under the new course at the same time in November 2023 Examination?

A. No, It is not allowed the student can apply either in a new course or old course at a time.
