ICAI CA Final exam pattern, marking scheme and passing criteria for 2019

Today we will discuss ICAI New CA Final Exam pattern, Marking scheme, Mark weightage and Passing criteria for 2019 exams

CA Final Course Exams are held twice in a year in the month of May and November. ICAI is governing and regulatory body for CA course in India. ICAI periodically update the course and syllabus to integrate with national and global standards. From June 2017, ICAI has introduced newly revised schemes of education and training.

This article will let us know about the New CA Final exam pattern, papers pattern, Passing criteria, and marks weightage prescribed by ICAI. Little knowledge of CA Final exam pattern will help CA aspirants in preparing for the exam and understanding the marking pattern too.

ICAI CA Final Exam Pattern 2019

To understand the Exam Pattern of CA Final first, you have to understand some Basic Details of CA Final exams

1.There are Eight papers in CA Final Course examination.

  • paper 1 to Paper 4 are under group A
  • paper 5 to  paper 8 are under group B

2. CA Final Course exam is for 800 marks where each paper is for 100 marks.

3. No Negative marking is applicable to any paper The exam is conducted offline

4. The medium of the exam is either English or Hindi except for Section b of paper 2 which will compulsorily be taken in English language only

Group 1

Paper-1: Financial Reporting(100 marks)

Paper-2: Strategic Financial Management(100 marks)

Paper-3: Advanced Auditing and Professional Ethics(100 marks)

Paper-4: Corporate and Economic Laws (100 marks)

  • Corporate Laws( 70 marks)
  • Economics Laws (30 marks)

Group 2

Paper-5: Strategic Cost Management and Performance Evaluation(100 marks)

  • Elective paper(100 marks)
  • Paper-6A: Risk Management
  • Paper-6B: Financial Services and Capital Markets
  • Paper-6C: International Taxation
  • Paper-6D: Economic Laws
  • Paper-6E: Global Financial Reporting Standards
  • Paper-6F: Multidisciplinary Case Study

Paper-7: Direct Tax Laws and International Taxation

  • Direct Tax Laws(70 marks)
  • International Taxation(30 marks)

Paper-8: Indirect Tax Laws

  • GST ( 75 marks )
  • Customs and FTP(25 marks )

CA Final Passing Criteria

After CA Final Course  exam, students need to score a minimum of 40%marks in each  paper of single group or both group, whichever is applicable and  minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all the papers in one group or both group whichever is applicable,

CA Final Exam Marking Pattern (Skill Wise)

The marking pattern for CA Final Course exam is also changed with the introduction of new elective paper 6  According to the new scheme the skill is the now assessed in respect of each content area. The focus is been given to enable the student to procure comprehension and knowledge skill about the course and successfully develop practical application of the knowledge by solving the problems, and blending and creating a new solution to the problem

Paper-1: Financial Reporting(100 marks) is evaluated 5% to 15% in comprehension and knowledge understanding, where 55% to 85% weightage is given to practical application and 15%to 25% is given to evaluation and synthesis, which means finding the opportunities and finding the solution to the problem

Paper -2: Strategic Financial Management is evaluated mainly through the knowledge acquired by evaluation and synthesis which is 50% to 65% and the remaining 20% to 40% is assessed through the aptitude in the application of those laws in solving problems. Rest 10%to 20% is evaluated through comprehension and knowledge.

Paper -3: Advanced Auditing and  Professional Ethics where students are assessed  15%to 25% through and knowledge about the question and 40%-70% is evaluated by the application of aptitude and remaining 20%-30%is scanned through evaluation and synthesis skill. 

Paper – 4: Corporate and Economic Laws, this paper is also divided into two sections. Section A Corporate laws is partially theoretical and partially practical. The paper is partially assessed through evaluation and synthesis skill set whereas Economic laws are not assessed through synthesis and evaluation skill. The student needs to work more on the application and analytical skills.

Paper -5: Strategic Cost Management and Performance Evaluation Is again a paper where 55%-75% marks can be obtained by having analytical and application approach to the paper, rest 20%-35% weightage is given to evaluation and synthesis skill.

Paper 6 is elective type paper and have open book examination, where the student can refer to the books inside the examination hall. The student needs to solve the case study, showing their analytical skills.

Paper -7: Direct Tax Laws and International Taxation where Direct Tax Laws paper has very low weightage on comprehension and knowledge skills whereas International will not be evaluated by your synthesizing skills.

Paper -8: Indirect Tax Laws is divided into 2 sections. Section 1 is assessed primarily through analysis and application and Section 2 is also assessed majorly through analytical skills.
