CA Intermediate exams are stage two exams conducted under the Chartered Accountancy course in India. Earlier known as IPCC, it is now converted to CA Intermediate with some changes in syllabus and patterns. It has eight subjects in total that a student is supposed to cover in the study period allotted to them.
The group system (a division of subjects) is what makes this exam easier, as the group consists of four subjects, and a candidate is supposed to pass all four papers in order to clear the group. Failure in one subject eventually results in the failure of the entire group. Thus, in simple terms, the student fails in all the subjects if he fails in anyone, resulting in the repetition of his study.
Thousands of students attend the CA Intermediate exams every year. It is to be noted that the average passing percentage till the year 2020 was very good.
Students after clearing the CA Foundation Course stand eligible to register for the CA Intermediate exam. Alternatively, graduates/ postgraduates or candidates having equivalent degrees can directly register for the CA Intermediate exam without sitting in for the entry-level exams, i.e. foundation exam.
Subjects to be covered
It is a subjective paper pattern for 4 papers and mixed (subjective:70% & objective :30%) for the remaining 4 subjects. It has eight subjects divided into two groups of four subjects each, totaling 800 marks. Subjects are as follows –
- Corporate and other Laws
- Cost and Management Accounting
- Advance Accounting
- Auditing and Assurance
- Enterprise Information system and strategic management.
- Financial Management and Economics for Finance.
Students are required to obtain 40% marks individually in every subject and 50% in aggregate. Students can appear either for one group or both the groups in a particular attempt, as per their caliber and studies.
